This is a very nice oil painting by the Dutch-Australian painter Alfred C. Calkoen. Calkoen painted this Australian landscape in lovely natural colors. More works of Alfred Calkoen are known in the same impressionistic style. It was painted around 1950, and is a standing rectangle. Later in his career Calkoen emigrated to Australia with his wife Joke Hovius, who also was a professional artist. During his Australian career, his style began to change and evolved into the now called Melbourne Bayside School. His paintings became characterized by a more abstract, graphical style. Calkoen finished his study in the Netherlands in the Nieuwe Kunstschool (Amsterdam) During his career he also was an art teacher for many years.

The painting is signed in red paint in the left lower corner ‘Alfred Calkoen’.
The painting is in good condition, with a bit of paint loss on the left side that isn’t to obvious because of the style used. There is minor crackle. The painting is framed in its original 50’s frame. Calkoen’s paintings have been sold by Sotheby’s Australia as well as other auction houses around the world.

HW Eckhardt

HW Eckhard, Dutch painter

This is a very nice majestic oil painting by the well-known Dutch painter HW Eckhardt. In my opinion the painting is very heavily influenced by the work of Van Gogh as seen in the work of many Dutch colleagues of those days. This impressionistic work was very dirty and was cleaned of its old yellow layer of lacquer. The frame was also cleaned. On the painting we see a vase with flowers and a bowl of tomatoes. The lines in the painting are simplified and the objects are composed of many different colors. A fantastic work of art and one of the better ones in the oeuvre of this well know Dutch painter.
A classic and impressionistic painting by a great painter.

There is some confusion about the date of birth of the painter, there is a painter CW Eckhardt Christiaan Hendrik, that is born in 1886. There supposedly also was a Eckhardt sr. Research about this is still ungoing.

The frame is cleaned up as well as the painting itself. A few pieces are missing from the frame. The painting is signed in the lower left corner. The overall condition is very good.The painting measures  61 x 71 cm (with the frame)

Koop

 Oil portrait of a little Dutch girl by the Dutch painter Koop. 

A Lovely old oil painting of a faint looking girl.
This painting was made by the artist “Koop” and it is signed near the neck of the girl on the right. On the canvas we see a faint looking girl, her gaze changes when you move around the painting and it is not known how she feels… is she sad? pouting? bored? This is what makes this lovely old painting very fascinating.

This artwork has nice natural colors and measures 32 x 25 for the canvas and 41 x 34 for the golden colored robust frame. The frame is from around 1940. The painting is dated around 1920-1930, maybe sooner. The painting was very dirty and is cleaned, it still has some mild cracquele. A new layer of lacquer was applied and a new stretcher frame was made. This is an used, almost antique item. A lovely atmospheric addition to your wall. I will add (attach) hanging garment to this painting prior to shipping, so you can hang it right away.
