Koop

Oil portrait of a little Dutch girl by the Dutch painter Koop.

A Lovely old oil painting of a faint looking girl.
This painting was made by the artist “Koop” and it is signed near the neck of the girl on the right. On the canvas we see a faint looking girl, her gaze changes when you move around the painting and it is not known how she feels… is she sad? pouting? bored? This is what makes this lovely old painting very fascinating.

This artwork has nice natural colors and measures 32 x 25 for the canvas and 41 x 34 for the golden colored robust frame. The frame is from around 1940. The painting is dated around 1920-1930, maybe sooner. The painting was very dirty and is cleaned, it still has some mild cracquele. A new layer of lacquer was applied and a new stretcher frame was made. This is an used, almost antique item. A lovely atmospheric addition to your wall. I will add (attach) hanging garment to this painting prior to shipping, so you can hang it right away.

A lovely and big framed oil crayon portrait of a young boy.  He is dressed up in a cute striped play suit. This portrait is from around 1900, maybe sooner. Pastel oil crayon was a new invention in the late 19th century. Oil crayon portraits where a whole new genre in the art world and popular until the 1920’s. The artist name and date is not found on the artwork. The pastel was produced in Belgium. There are some references, but unfortunately unreadable. I kept record, perhaps the next owner can make sense of it. The pastel was removed from the old matting, the glass was cleaned and a big foxing spot was retouched. The paper was dry cleaned and some small repairs were done on the frame. This big framed artwork measures 58 x 48 cm. The frame and glass are original.

Albert Aublet

Sur Le Sable

Albert Aublet, sur le sable woodengraving 1892“Sur Le Sable” is a beautiful wood engraving after work of A. Aublet.  This is how this work probably was commissioned and published in a showcase art magazine around 1892. On the left bottom is the printed autograph of A. Aublet, 1892 and under the matte is printed in typograph  “Sur le Sable” A. Aublet. The colors are exceptionally vibrant and lively. I suspect that some of the hand-painted areas are coated with Gum Arabicum to produce a waxy shine to some areas. this print is printed verso. The measurements are ca. 15.5 x 10,5 cms. This artwork is framed and can also be sold without the frame. The paper has been cleaned both dry and wet and some weak spots have been (invisibly) reinforced with Japanese Kozo paper on the back. Good for years to come!
