Linoleum cut by Han Krug
This big and colorful linoleum cut of the Dutch artist Han Krug, (1890 – 1977) surely is eye candy for both young and old. It would make a wonderful wall decoration in a nursery! This linoleum cut is dated 1935 when Krug worked on illustrations for children’s books. Han Krug used strong colors for this linoleum cut and the scene is very suitable and appealing to young children. It was signed in the plate where it states “Linoleum cut by Han Krug” (Dutch: Linoleumsnede van Han Krug) in the lower right corner.
The measurements of this panoramic print are 55 x 23 cm for the printed area and approximate 66.5 x 39 for the frame. The margins of the paper are about the same as the frame. Some work was done to preserve this print: I removed it from its acidic cardboard, cleaned it, removed the glue and de-acidified this work and did some tear mending on the edges of the paper. There is some crackling here and there in the paper, but nothing too distracting. The print was mounted on museum acid free board, with an acid free yellow matte and a piece of new glass. The frame looks like red oak to me.
This lovely work by Han Krug is now preserved and fresh looking, good for years to come! Ready to hang on your wall.
